Clayton V. Broich, 89, of Carroll, IA died on November 28, 2020 at St Anthony Nursing Home.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, December 4, 2020 at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will be by Marcy Anderson. Casket Bearers will be Ryan Broich, Ben Broich, Steve Nass, Jason Nass, Nathan Alley, Kris Alley, Briana Alley, Logan Broich, Kyle Broich, Sydney Broich, Travis Broich, Tyler Broich, Josh Broich, Andy Phipps, and Sarah Sills. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with Military Honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Visitation without greeting the family will be held from 10-10:30 a.m. on Friday at the church.
Those attending the Funeral Mass are required to wear a face covering and abide by social distancing guidelines. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Clayton’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.

Clayton was born May 6, 1931 in Willey, IA to John and Emilia (Neppl) Broich. Clayton graduated from Carroll High School in 1949 and worked as a carpenter before entering the army in 1954. He was stationed in the West Indies building runways.
He was married to Bernita Langel of Templeton on Oct 17, 1953 and they were married nearly 67 years, before Bernita’s death in July of 2020. They had six children: Stan (Billie) Broich of Ankeny, Sheryl (Steve) Nass of Omaha, Jean Broich of Des Moines, Lori (Bruce) Alley of Arvada, CO, Allen (Melissa) Broich of Ankeny, and Tom (LaDon) Broich of Ankeny. They have 15 grandchildren: Ryan (Tara) and Ben (Erin) Broich; Steve (Suzanne) and Jason (Leigh) Nass; Nathan, Kris (Jessica) and Briana Alley; Logan, Kyle and Sydney Broich; Travis (Haley), Tyler and Josh Broich; and Andy (Wendi) Phipps and Sarah (Brian) Sills. They also have 16 great grandchildren: Dylan, Jackson, Nash, Madeline, Campbell, Norah, Elliot, Lily, Drew, Will, Raye, Elizabeth, Elijah, Alexander, Gabe, and Abigail.
Clayton is survived by his sisters: Delores (Vernon) Langel of Omaha, Marilyn (Dale-deceased) Snyder of Breda, Joleen (Ron) Klocke of Carroll, Laurel Jean (Dennis) Heithoff of Willey; brother John (Mary Jo) of Carroll; sister-in-law Yvonne (Tom-deceased) Broich of Carroll; brothers-in-law LaVern (Louetta-deceased) Langel of Templeton, Elmer (Imelda) Langel of Manning and Don (Vera) Schettler of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bernita, his parents; mother and father-in-law Joe and Mary (Bauer) Langel; brothers Bob, Marvin, Tom, and Jerry Broich; brother-in-law Dale Snyder; sisters-in-law Edna Schettler, Edra Broich, and Doris Broich and great grandchildren Hope Phipps and Owen Nass.
After an honorary discharge from the Army, he went to work for Russell Taylor Construction and then in 1957, he and his brother Tom formed Broich Brothers Masonry where they spent 47 years taking pride in their craftsmanship.
He also spent many years working for Sharp Funeral Home where he could always be found welcoming the guests as they arrived. He was routinely called upon to transport the deceased back to Carroll and he would tell stories of the ‘conversations’ he had with them on the long ride home. We can presume Dad did all the talking.
While traveling on our family getaways, it never failed that Dad was able to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and then realize that somehow, they had a mutual acquaintance back in Iowa.
Clayton enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his family. He was always thrilled to spend time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Most of all he enjoyed hearing that one of his kids had a home project and they needed a ‘Project Manager’ to supervise. He and Mom would be packed up and, on their way, before he even knew what the project entailed. All of our homes have a touch of Dad’s handiwork and he was never shy in lending a hand and sharing his knowledge. He jokingly commented when the job was complete; “Good enough for who it’s for.”
He was a member of St Lawrence Parish, the Knights of Columbus, and the Carroll American Legion.
