A Correctionville boy has died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident Sunday in Ida County. The Iowa State Patrol reports they responded to the scene on Iowa Highway 31 near State Avenue, northeast of Correctionville, at approximately 6:23 p.m. The initial investigation revealed that 33-year-old Ethan David Juelfs of Washta was southbound on Highway 31 and swerved to miss hitting a deer. He lost control of the 2003 Lincoln Town Car he was driving and went off the west side of the road, overturned and went airborne into a ravine. The vehicle struck a tree. Nine-year-old Hayden Dale Juelfs was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation. The Correctionville and Washta Fire Departments, Ida County Medical Examiner and Holstein Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene.
