Lake City Is The Next Calhoun County Community To Receive Fiber Internet Services

The Webster-Calhoun Cooperative Telephone Association (WCCTA) has turned its attention to Lake City as they continue to bring fiber internet services westward into Calhoun County. According to Office Manager, Marcie Boerner, the company has been working on this expansion for over a year and recently sent a letter to homes and businesses within city limits about their interest in high-speed broadband internet.

While the project has been in the works for over a year, Boerner says the pandemic has really highlighted the need for quality internet access in rural Iowa. Lake City officials are working with WCCTA to ensure residents understand what the letter is requesting. By signing and returning the included form, property owners are granting access for the cooperative to lay the necessary lines at no cost. However, there will be connection fees if a customer decides they want to switch to WCCTA service at a later date. Boerner says Lake City is the fourth community in the latest expansion.

Currently, the fastest internet speeds available in Lake City are at 200 Mbps maximum. According to Boerner, speeds nearly five times faster, or 1 Gbps, will be possible once the project is online.

WCCTA is only planning to connect homes within city limits currently. For more information, contact their offices using the information included below.
