Local Law Enforcement Responds To Several Motor Vehicle Incidents Thursday

The Carroll Police Department responded to several traffic incidents on Thursday, Oct. 22, including two accidents. At approximately 2:12 p.m. they were called to the 900 block of W. U.S. Highway 30. Thirty-three-year-old Shamera Hall of Lohrville was eastbound on 30 in a 2014 Dodge Ram. Thirty-two-year-old Robert Wiggins of Lake City was exiting the Hy-Vee parking lot, turning westbound in a 2005 Lexus ES330. Wiggins told authorities a semi-tractor trailer waiting for traffic to turn off of 30 and into the parking lot blocked his view and he was struck as he pulled out. Functional damage to both vehicles was reported. Wiggins was cited for failure to yield on a left turn. The second accident occurred at U.S. Highway 30 and Clark Street at approximately 4:02 p.m. Twenty-one-year-old Carlos Valle of Carroll was northbound on Clark in a 1999 Mazda Protégé. Nineteen-year-old Ross Thompson of Branson, Mo. was westbound on U.S. Highway 30, but failed to stop for a red light. He struck the Valle vehicle on the passenger side, causing disabling damage to the Mazda. Thompson was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Thursday morning, several local law enforcement members came to the aid of a stranded motorist, Carroll Broadcasting News Director, Chantelle Grove. A sincere thank you goes out to off-duty Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputy, Jake Hannasch, who immediately jumped into action, pushing the stalled car up the steep hill at 30 and Court Street and around the corner. Thanks also goes out to Capt. Ethan Kathol with the Carroll Police Department and Jason Hoffman at the Carroll City/County Communication Center, who were invaluable in ensuring not only the safety of the motorist in distress, but all other drivers on the highway at that time.
