Only Minor Injuries Sustained In Pickup Vs. Horse And Buggy Accident Saturday

Only minor injuries resulted from a pickup/buggy accident on Saturday west of Breda. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to 120th Street, about one mile west of Concord Avenue, at approximately 5:23 p.m. The initial investigation revealed that 67-year-old Daniel Bernard Dunn of Breda was traveling westbound on 120th in a horse-drawn buggy. As the buggy approached the crest of a hill, a 1999 Ford F-150, driven by 84-year-old Leonard Joseph Reetz of Arcadia, came up behind it. Reetz told authorities the sun was in his eyes and he didn’t see the horse and buggy in front of him until it was too late. The truck struck the back of the buggy, throwing Dunn off and into the ditch. The horse bolted, pulling the buggy about a mile before losing it near Aspen Avenue. The horse returned home, which was roughly 2.5 miles away, safely. There was an estimated $1,500 in damage to the Ford and $1,000 in damage to the buggy.
