Carroll High Goes 3-0 At Greene County, IKM-Manning 0-2 At Tri Center on Saturday

Carroll At Greene County Tournament

Carroll had a great day on Saturday in Jefferson sweeping their day and picking up their 20th win of the season in the process. Tigers had their best performance this season and seem to be putting things together as the playoffs loom in a couple weeks.

Carroll controlled their match against Lewis Central. They had a .216 kill efficiency while averaging 12 kills per set. Josie Ayala with 11 and Ella Collison with 8 had big games on the outside. Serve receive had its best match of the day to start the morning and the Tigers used a dominating serve to keep the Titans on their heels.

South Hardin gave Carroll a very competitive match and their only set loss on the day. Carroll was able to pressure them with their outsides as Ayala and Collison were both in double digits in kills with 15 and 14 respectively. The Tigers averaged 17 digs per set as South Hardin used good ball control to give them opportunities for attacks. After a tough 24-26 loss in the 2nd set Carroll rebounded to pull out a tough 3rd set at 15-13.

Carroll wrapped up the day with a convincing sweep against an athletic Pella Christian team. The two set win gave Carroll a 6-1 set record for the day and improved them to 20-10 on the season. Carroll had their lowest kill efficiency match at. 072 but still averaged 9.5 kills per set while picking up 16.5 digs per set. Laura Sweeney did a nice job finding her hitters and finished the match with 12 assists. Ella Collison added 3 aces in the match.

Josie Ayala and Ella Collison had huge offensive days at the net with Ayala finishing with 30 kills and Collison 29. Sweeney ended up with 62 assists including 30 against South Hardin, she added 25 digs. Hannah Jorgensen may have had her best tournament finishing with a team high 33 digs. Kenzie Honold and Collison each had 18 digs. Kennedy Lein led the team with 5 blocks while Collison finished with 4. Sweeney and Ayala had team high 5 aces each.

Carroll currently has some of the top players in the state staticially. Laura Sweeney leads the state in assists with 633. Ella Collison is 2nd in the state in kill attempts at 823 and is 2nd in kills in Class 4A with 268. Josie Ayala is 5th in Class 4A in kills with 220.

Carroll hosts Carlisle on Tuesday.

IKM-Manning At Tri Center Tournament

IKM-Manning took on two good teams Saturday and were swept by both as they fell in two sets to 10th ranked Red Oak and in two sets to a Westwood Sloan team that entered the tournament at 9-4.

The Wolves competed well against Westwood getting a solid match from the back row as Lauren Danner, Bianca Cadwell and Neveah Boland combined for 27 digs. The Wolves were close in the 1st set losing by just 2 before falling by six in set 2. The Wolves did struggle against Red Oak who currently leads the Hawkeye 10 Conference.

Sierra Ferry finished the day with a team high 6 kills with Neveah Boland and Bianca Cadwell each with 5. Lauren Danner had two solid matches leading the team in each match and finishing with 16 digs, Boland and Cadwell each had 9 digs. Taylor Ferneding finished the day with 11 assists. Kylie Powers had a team high 2 blocks and Ferry finished with 2 aces.

IKM-Manning hosts LoMa on Tuesday.
