David Schaefer of Carroll

David Schaefer, age 69, of Carroll died Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Unity Point Hospice – Taylor House in Des Moines.
A private funeral service will be held on Saturday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.  Fr. Shinoj Jose of St. John Paul II Parish will preside.  Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Public Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Those in attendance at the visitation and funeral service will be required to wear a mask and abide by all COVID-19 guidelines.

David, the son of John “Jack” and Florence (Galloway) Schaefer was born on March 29, 1951 at Carroll, Iowa.  He spent his younger years in the Breda area, attended St. Bernard’s School and Audubon Schools for a brief time before graduating from Kuemper High School with the Class of 1969.
Following his education, Dave enlisted in the National Guard for 6 years.  David was employed in management for Sernetts in Carroll, Spencer and Clarinda.  He would later retire from Ace Hardware in Carroll.  David enjoyed studying politics, gardening, studying history, listening to music, and following the University of Iowa Sports.  Most of all David enjoyed the time he spent with his family.
Left to celebrate David’s life is his son: John David Schaefer and his wife Jill of Lisbon; his grandchildren: Ruger (Ashley) Hutchison of Stanwood, Hunter (Brooke) Hutchison of Lisbon, Traysen Schaefer of Cedar Falls, and Daylin Schaefer of Lisbon; a great-grandson Remington John Hutchison.  Also surviving are his siblings: Gary (Jane) Schaefer of Carroll, Kenneth (Becki) Schaefer of Carroll, Linda Schaefer of Carroll, Janice Schaefer of Carroll, Lori (Dave) Hill of North Liberty, and Amy (Mitch) Rydl of Carroll; and sister-in-law: Marilyn Schaefer of Carroll.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Steve Schaefer.
