In May of 2019, Wall Lake biodiesel producer, Western Iowa Energy, took going green to the next level when they dedicated about four acres of their property to use as a Monarch fueling station. In partnership with the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA), Operations Manager, Kevin Bieret, and his team began preparing the property that fall for seeding of a native prairie mix. This year, those seeds have taken root and are attracting the milkweed butterflies. The previously unused parcel now provides the perfect environment for Monarchs to land, place their larvae and to feed during their migration to and from Mexico.
