Preliminary numbers for the season at Lake View’s Camp Crescent show the popular campground saw a record number of visitors this year despite the pandemic. According to City Administrator, Scott Peterson, the latest numbers show attendance is up significantly from last year.
With many summer recreational activities cancelled or restricted, camping was one of the few things still available for Iowans to get away from their homes for any substantial length of time, and Peterson says that showed in and around the popular getaway location.
With a good portion of Lake View’s economy based on tourism, there was a lot of concern among community leaders on how the pandemic would impact local businesses. Peterson says the record number of visitors helped mitigate the worst of the effects.
He expects Camp Crescent to remain relatively busy through the end of the season, which usually occurs around mid-October.
