Bonnie Onken of Lidderdale

Bonita “Bonnie” Marie Onken, age 82, of Lidderdale, IA, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Pastor Robert Wagner officiating.  Organist for the service will be Ed Ludwig.  Casket bearers will be Bonnie’s grandsons: Chad Onken, Joel Onken, Justin Onken, Jamie Onken, Dan Riskowski, Anthony Riskowski, Lyndsie Kammin, and Ryan Pille.  Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale.
Visitation will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.  Those in attendance at Bonnie’s services are asked to abide by Covid – 19 social distancing guidelines and masks are recommended.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com
Bonnie was born on September 17, 1937 in Carroll, IA, and she was the daughter of Frank and Loretta (Steffes) Broich.  She grew up in Maple River and graduated from St. Angela’s Academy in Carroll.  Bonnie was married to Vernal Onken on February 2, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sioux City, IA.  The couple made their home in Lidderdale where they raised their three children and farmed.  Bonnie worked at the S&S Store in Carroll for 31 years.  She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale where she taught Sunday School was a member of the church guild.  Bonnie enjoyed traveling, bowling, dancing, and she loved to bake for her family. 
Bonnie is survived by her children and their families: daughter Robin Riskowski (Joe) of Omaha, NE, Rick Onken (Vicki) of Carroll, and Rhonda Lewis (Rod) of Carroll; nine grandchildren: Chad Onken (Cindi), Joel Onken (Tami), twins – Justin Onken (Bobbi Sue) and Jamie Onken (Nicole), Lyndsie Kammin (Kevin), Dan Riskowski (Wendy), Ryan Pille (Bri), and Anthony Riskowski (Amanda), and Rudy Lewis (Candice); 26 great-grandchildren; four sisters Rita Bruch (Marvin) of Manning, IA, Dorothy Hoffman of Lynchburg, VA, Phyllis Wessling (George) of Mason City, IA, and Christy Assman (Terry) of Omaha; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Loretta Broich; her mother and father-in-law Arthur and Viola Onken; her siblings:  Jane Wessling, Esther Leiting, Richard Broich, Denny Broich and Marian Broich in infancy; a grandson, Andrew Lewis in 2013; a great-grandson Joshua Lewis in 2018; and her husband Vernal in 2011.
