Carroll Man Scheduled For Trial Next Month On Separate Sexual Abuse Cases

A Carroll man is scheduled to go before a jury next month for two separate cases of alleged sexual contact with a minor. According to Carroll County District Court records, 35-year-old Timothy Shane McFarland pled not guilty in January to two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, class B felonies, for the first case and lascivious acts with a child and third-degree sexual abuse, class C felonies, in the other case. The second-degree sexual abuse charges stem from an investigation by the Carroll Police Department that claims McFarland engaged in sexual activity with a juvenile victim between Aug. 1, 2012 and Nov. 1, 2015. The remaining charges stem from a separate incident on July 1, 2019 in Carroll. McFarland’s trials are tentatively scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 15. However, several other unrelated trials are also slated for that day. Depending on court availability, McFarland’s trial may be moved to the next available court date. In Iowa, a class B felony carries a maximum penalty of up to 25 years in prison and up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines for each class C felony.
