Carroll Daycare Kids Sell Ice Cream And Learn Life Lessons On Giving At The Same Time

The owner and operator of a local daycare center, Little Wonders Childcare, continues a tradition of teaching her charges the value of paying it forward. Mallory Ramaekers says the kids have held a fundraiser for the past few years, selling ice cream from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. right out in front of the center and then distributing the proceeds locally.

She says when they sit down and talk about where they are going to donate their earnings, she tries to pick out services that the youngsters can understand. This year, they will be giving what they earn for the benefit of the entire county.

This year Ramaekers is considering an added element to the giving.

The kids at her center range in age from zero to nine, but those outside selling will be rotating shifts of the children two and up. Ramaekers says the benefits go beyond the value lessons and include the joy of socialization.

Ramaekers says they are always interested in watching the amount they are raising grow over the six hours of the sale.

The idea for the ice cream sale is something that came from Ramaekers’ childhood.

The Little Wonders Daycare is near St. Anthony Regional Hospital and Holy Spirit Church, at 212 S. Walnut St. To help the kids out with their fundraiser, stop by and get your ice cream treats from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today (Friday).
