IDPH And DOT Partner On Social Media Campaign To Encourage Pregnant And Postpartum Women To Wear Seatbelts

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) have announced the launch of a statewide plan to encourage pregnant woman and new mothers to buckle up. The Iowa Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (IMQCC) is partnering with the DOT, Zero Fatalities Iowa, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau and Safe Kids Iowa to create a social media campaign to show how seatbelts are safe for both mother and baby. The IDPH’s latest Maternal Mortality Review found nearly one in five maternal deaths are caused by motor vehicle accidents. Of those deaths, 71 percent were pregnant or postpartum women who were not wearing a seatbelt. The social media campaign launched on July 1 and will run through Sept. 30.
