George “Tony” Somsky & Mary Brackin of Lohrville

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Lohrville for George “Tony” Somsky, 72, and Mary Brackin, 69, who both died on Friday, June 26, 2020 in Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be left to the discretion of the family and may be sent to Julie Brackin, 904 2nd Street, Lohrville, Iowa 51453. Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City is assisting the family.
George Anthony Somsky was born on April 22, 1948 to George and Josephine (Kanniainen) Somsky. He graduated from Assumption Catholic School in 1966 then was drafted into the United States Army from February 1968-December 1969.  He worked at Granger Locker for 18 years then owned Tony’s Grocery in Granger from 1984-1989. He enjoyed woodworking.
Mary Jane (Head) Brackin was born on September 2, 1950 to Martin and Emma (Hutter) Head. She worked as a hairdresser, then became the first female cop in Calhoun County and Lohrville from 1975-1977. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, watching birds.
Tony and Mary’s life together began in 1994 when they blended their families and they enjoyed spending time with all the grandchildren.
Left to celebrate their lives are their children: Jason (Kristy) Somsky of Des Moines, Melody (Dale) Everhart of Lohrville, Michelle (Lawrence) Vaughn of Lake City, Mary (Jonathan) Tiernan of Pocahontas, Melissa Kruse of Spencer and Julie Brackin (Donny Kraft, Jr.) of Lohrville; 17 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren; Tony’s sister Kathy (Tom) Gill of Colorado and Mary’s brother Roger (Jeanette) Head of Verona, WI. They were preceded in death by Tony’s parents George and Josephine Somsky, Mary’s parents Martin and Emma Head, Tony’s brother Donald Somsky and Mary’s brothers Raymond and James Head.
