An Organization Known For Helping Others Has Lost Revenue Due To COVID-19 And Now Needs Your Help

As activities and events get cancelled in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is not only impacting businesses, but is also hurting those who rely on these for their non-profit organizations. The big Breda Independence Day celebration has been cancelled, and Fred F. and Norman J. Bruning Breda American Legion Post #607 member, Bob Fasbender, says he hasn’t seen a cancellation of this nature for more than half a century.

This celebration has historically been a chance for the Legion members to raise money for building upkeep and in support of their many other service initiatives. Fasbender says they have decided they will continue with the annual raffle.

Fasbender says the need to raise money this year is more critical than usual. Like a lot of places that have had to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they too have missed out on being able to rent the hall and gain proceeds from serving beverages. Fasbender says the closure has also resulted in about $5,000 of losses in outdated liquor, soda and other perishable items. In addition, they still have their regular expenses.

The Legion is a 501(c)3 non-profit, so donations are tax deductible. Fasbender says this is the spot in Breda where people in need go and they are trying to hang on and be self-sustaining to be of service for years to come. Raffle tickets can be purchased and donations can be made at Michael’s Shoes in Carroll, you can call Fasbender at 712-792-3115 or Arnie Tiefenthaler in Breda at 712-830-8762. Questions can be emailed to bredalegion@westianet.net and mail-in donations can be sent to the address included below.
