Former Denison Dealership Owner Accused Of Fraud Sentenced To Probation Tuesday

The former owner of Adams Motor Company, 59-year-old Robert Adams, who faced criminal charges in Crawford County District Court for keeping customers’ title transfer, warranty and other fees and selling used vehicles without paying off their loans, was sentenced to three years of probation today (Tuesday). Adams originally faced 16 counts, including ongoing criminal conduct, first-degree theft and fraudulent sales practices, following a lengthy investigation into the company by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) Bureau of Investigation and Identity Protection. Adams reached an agreement with prosecutors and pled guilty Monday to a single count, fraudulent sales practices, a class D felony. He was granted a deferred judgement, meaning court records regarding the case will be expunged upon successful completion of his probation. According to Crawford County Attorney, Colin Johnson, restitution to the victims has already been arranged. In addition to probation, Adams was ordered to pay a $750 civil penalty.
