Carroll American Legion Smashes Goal For Together We Stand Flag Fundraiser

The Carroll American Legion has well exceeded their goal of raising at least $23,100 for 770 new flags and aluminum poles to line U.S. Highway 30 on patriotic holidays. As of 6 p.m. Wednesday evening, their total was estimated at more than $36,500 from over 300 contributors. Legion member, RT Schreck, says the generosity from the public was overwhelming.

The Legion puts out flags on Veterans’ Day, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July every year. Thanks to the outpouring of support, Schreck says this is a tradition that can continue for a very long time, and they are now prepared to to be able to place two flags on each pole after the streetscape projects are completed, which will create a corridor from Grant Road to U.S. Highway 71 and up tributary streets through the downtown district.

On behalf of the entire Carroll American Legion and veterans everywhere, Schreck extends a heartfelt thank you to all the people, organizations and businesses that donated.

If you missed Wednesday’s opportunity to give, the Carroll American Legion is still accepting donations. Gifts can be sent to P.O. Box 213, Carroll, Iowa 51401, dropped off at the Carroll Broadcasting studios at 1119 Plaza Drive or with any Legion member.
