Educators Are Back To Work At CCSD This Week As They Prepare For The 2019-20 School Year

Students within the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) have only a few days left of summer break, as the 2019-20 school year begins at the end of the week. According to Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, 18 new faces are joining the staff this year. New teachers reported for orientation last week, and all staff returned to work today (Monday). He says it is unusual that they needed to fill so many positions this summer, but notes there does not appear to be any specific reason for it.

Berlau adds the buildings and grounds team was kept busy over the summer. Some significant sidewalk work was completed to the west of Adams Elementary, and the district was able to cross off some lingering items on the Carroll Athletic Field punch list. The high school also saw some noticeable changes, including a new sound system and videoboard in the gymnasium, the construction of a control room in the commons for Tiger Vision and installation of Tiger decals on the glass at the entryway. The biggest difference for students and families as they begin the school year is new drop-off and pick-up procedures at Adams and Fairview.

At Fairview, parents will enter the south parking lot from 18th Street and loop around to the east before dropping off their students on the south side of the building. Vehicles will then turn left and head back east to exit the same way they entered. Berlau, who took over as superintendent on July 1, says he has been extremely impressed with the district so far and is looking forward to getting students back into the classroom.

Fairview, Adams and the Carroll Middle School host their open houses tomorrow (Tuesday) from 4:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. The high school’s open house is Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The school year begins Friday, Aug. 23 when students officially return to class.
