Carroll Resident Airlifted For Treatment Following Two-Vehicle Accident Near Iowa City Friday Afternoon

Three people were injured Friday afternoon, including two Carroll residents, following a two-vehicle accident west of Iowa City. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 2:36 p.m. near the Tiffin exit on Interstate 80. Authorities have not released the names of individuals involved pending the completion of an investigation. According to law enforcement, an eastbound 2019 semi-tractor trailer, driven by a 46-year-old Baltimore, Maryland man, was slowing for traffic caused by a previous accident and was struck from behind by a 2000 Windstar van, operated by a 52-year-old Carroll resident. Both vehicles came to rest in the southern lane of eastbound traffic. The van’s driver was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics (UI) for treatment of suspected serious injuries. A 16-year-old passenger in the van was also taken by ground ambulance to UI for treatment of injuries. The semi driver was transported to UI for treatment by DOT Motor Vehicle enforcement. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Highway Helper and Tiffin Fire Department assisted at the scene.
