MRHC Provides More Than $8.5 In Economic Support To Region

Following the release of an economic impact study by the Iowa Hospital Association, Chief Executive Officer of Manning Regional Healthcare Center (MRHC), John O’Brien, says he and his entire staff take pride in the role they play within an industry that strongly supports local communities, ensuring they are vibrant and prosperous. “Every year this report provided by the Iowa Hospital Association serves as a great reminder for how our hospital not only provides great care for our patients, but also positively impacts the health of our area’s economy,” O’Brien says. The healthcare organization in Manning includes a critical access hospital, physician clinic and substance abuse recovery center and employed 182 individuals in the past year. The more than $8.5 million payroll has created over $12.6 million in overall economic impact to the Manning area. Employees spent an estimated $3.88 million on retail sales in that year and contributed nearly $233,000 in state sales tax revenue. The study examined jobs, income, retail sales and sales tax produced by hospitals and the rest of the state’s health care sector. This includes physicians, dentists and other health practitioners, nursing homes and residential care facilities, other medical health services and pharmacies who contribute $18 billion to Iowa’s economy while directly and indirectly providing almost 343,000 jobs.
