Audubon County Sheriff’s Office Is Asking Residents To Update The Way They Receive Emergency And Weather Alerts

Audubon County authorities are urging residents to check on the status of their weather radios and make some necessary changes. They have been notified that some of these may not be receiving alerts due to an offline tower in Pottawattamie County that was responsible for notifications in portions of Audubon County. The older-style radios will get the warnings distributed by Audubon County dispatchers, the newer ones will not. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office is suggesting that residents sign up for ALERT IOWA, the state’s emergency messaging system. The user can have emergency and weather messages sent to their cell or home phones and to an email address. All registrants will automatically get alerts for blizzards, flash flooding, red flag (fire danger) and tornado warnings. There is then the option of signing up for 15 other weather-related watches and warnings. In addition, if Audubon County officials have an urgent alert, it will go out over this system. The user has the ability to fine-tune down to their preferred communities and can identify any special needs. There are no fees, but standard messaging and data rates may apply. Links on how to sign up for ALERT IOWA can be found below.
