Shirley Gallagher of Vail

Mass of Christian Burial for 79 year old Shirley Gallagher of Vail, Iowa will be held 10:30 A.M, Saturday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail with burial in the St. Ann Catholic Cemetery in Vail. Friends may call from 4-7 P.M., Friday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail with a Prayer Service at 6 P.M. She passed away Tuesday at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. The Huebner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, David Gallagher and his wife, Lisa, Kevin Gallagher and Jan Eggers, and Jeff Gallagher and his wife, Jacki; three daughters, Colleen Ludwig and her husband, Thomas, Donna Pietig and her husband, Allen, and Sandy Williams and her husband, Randy; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marge Rosener and her husband, Ray, and Ione Hinners; one brother, John Mueggenberg and his wife, Leona; one sister-in-law, Ella Mueggenberg; one brother-in-law, LeRoy Brincks; and other relatives and friends.
Shirley Mae Gallagher was born March 5, 1940, the daughter of Joseph & Margaret (Irlbeck) Mueggenberg. She died Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Eventide Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-nine.
Shirley was born on the family farm near Breda, Iowa. She received her education at St Bernard’s Catholic School in Breda, Iowa, graduating in 1958. On July 25, 1959, she was united in marriage to Eugene Gallagher at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda, and they were blessed with the birth of six children.
Shirley was a hard worker and passionate about caring for others. In addition to her role as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she enjoyed the caregiver roles she took on while employed in the Physical Therapy Department at Crawford County Memorial Hospital, at Denison Job Corps, WESCO, and Mosaic, retiring from her position there at the age of 77.
In her leisure time, Shirley enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events, trips to Branson, Missouri, and card club activities. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was also a member of St Ann’s Family Choir, the Parish Women’s Group, Vail Red Hat Group, and the Birthday Coffee group.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene in October 2009; one granddaughter, Amber Pietig; three brothers, Vernon Mueggenberg, Louis Mueggenberg, Joseph Mueggenberg, Jr.; and one sister, Darlene Brincks. Survivors include three sons, David Gallagher and his wife, Lisa, Kevin Gallagher and Jan Eggers, and Jeff Gallagher and his wife, Jacki; three daughters, Colleen Ludwig and her husband, Thomas, Donna Pietig and her husband, Allen, and Sandy Williams and her husband, Randy; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marge Rosener and her husband, Ray, and Ione Hinners; one brother, John Mueggenberg and his wife, Leona; one sister-in-law, Ella Mueggenberg; one brother-in-law, LeRoy Brincks; and other relatives and friends.
