Senator Grassley Says Now Is Not The Time To Negotiate A DACA Deal

U.S. Senator, Chuck Grassley, said Friday that it is disappointing that Democratic leaders chose to vote against legislation that would keep the government up and running to make a point that is completely unrelated to government funding. He adds that the legislation they opposed would have also helped extend the Children’s Health Insurance Program for six years. “Democrats demanded a DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) fix for the government to stay open, but didn’t even introduce their legislation to debate. The Senate couldn’t have voted on their bill if we wanted to, because it didn’t exist,” Grassley says. The DACA deadline isn’t until March, and Grassley says there is a deal to be made, but there is also an appropriate time to make it and shutting down the government does not serve Americans or DACA recipients. The Senate is expected to take a vote at noon today (Monday) to end the shutdown and provide funding for the next three weeks. The shutdown went into effect at midnight on Friday.
