DMACC Hosting First Ever Brain Injury Symposium

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Continuing Education Department for the first time will be hosting a brain injury symposium titled, “Shining Light on Concussions” in July. Brain injuries, particularly concussions, have come into the spotlight recently as a safety issue, especially for athletes of all ages. The July 28 symposium is designed to provide a multidisciplinary interactive education opportunity for those who interact with individuals suffering from brain injury-related symptoms. “This symposium is for those who interface with concussion issues, including coaches, administrators, officials, physicians, athletic trainers, first responders, nurses, physical and occupational therapists and others who might treat individuals with concussions,” says DMACC continuing education coordinator, Jill Whitson. The class is approved for 7.2 nursing contact hours and six hours of formal EMS continuing education units (CEUs). The symposium will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the building five conference center on the DMACC Ankeny campus. Early registration cost is $100 and ends June 30.
