Local Law Enforcement Reports Special Traffic Enforcement Program Numbers

The most recent Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau Special Traffic Enforcemnt Program (sTEP) was longer than average, spanning two weeks around the Memorial Day holiday, from May 22 through June 4. Area law enforcement agencies have now submitted their results to the state. The Carroll Police Department tallied a total of 112 citations for various infractions, issued 244 warnings, investigated eight accidents, provided assistance to two motorists and served eight arrest warrants. During that same time period, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office issued a total of 25 citations, 46 warnings, served one arrest warrant and made three felony arrests, provided assistance to four motorists and investigated five accidents, including three property damage, one personal injury and one fatality. This sTEP initiative had law enforcement focusing on education and enforcement of seat belt use to save lives, but officers say they take this opportunity to educate drivers and passengers about many other safety aspects as well. A breakdown of citations and warnings by infraction type can be found included below.
