Carroll County Supervisors To Decide On Drainage District Legal Funding Monday

In Monday’s Carroll County Board of Supervisor’s meeting, a formal decision will be made on whether or not the county will again support the Iowa Drainage District Association’s legal fund for the pending Des Moines Water Works lawsuit against drainage districts in Sac, Buena Vista and Calhoun Counties. Last year, the county pledged $5,000 in support, and they are being asked to do the same this year. At last week’s meeting, the board discussed the request and a preliminary vote revealed that there were four supervisors in favor of the funding and one against. Supervisor Mark Beardmore was the lone nay vote, saying he believed that this was being drawn out and benefitting the lawyers more than anyone else. The lawsuit, which was originally slated for this August, has already been delayed until next spring. Other items the supervisors will discuss include board appointments to a Jail Study Committee. That meeting will get underway at 9 a.m. in the Carroll County Courthouse Supervisor’s meeting room.
