Mitchell is a senior at IKM Manning...plays football, basketball, baseball, track, and cross country...and has a Cumulative GPA of 4.0...
Mitchell is committed to both himself and his school. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA, making the Gold Honor each and every time throughout Junior High and High School. He ranks #1 in his class of 60. He challenges himself with a heavy academic load including college courses and extra courses. He has been the recipient of the IKM-Manning Academic award in both years he was eligible (2009 & 2010). He is a member of National Honor Society, this year serving as it’s president. He supports his school by participating in many extra curricular activities as well as serving in various capacities as an officer. He has been on Student Council for all of his junior high and high school years, was on the Executive Committee of the council last year and this year serves as the Council's president. As a member of the Council, he has assisted in blood mobile visits and in planning Homecoming and various other activities throughout the school year. His other school activities include: Chorus (including a cast member in several musical productions and Men’s Quartet); FFA (serving in the offices of sentinel and reporter), Large Group Speech, Drama (cast member/lead of several high school plays) and participates in community theatre productions; Quiz Bowl and class president (for 6 years – junior high through high school). As junior class president, he was involved in all aspects of the Junior-Senior Prom. He is in band: concert, marching and a member of the Western Valley Conference Honor Band (’09 & ’10) and participates in solo contests each year. He plays trapset for IKM-Manning’s award winning Jazz Band. In connection with the Jazz Band, Mitchell has received the following awards: Outstanding Musicianship at SWIBA Dick Bauman Jazz Festival in ’09 and ’10; Outstanding Soloist at Lewis and Clark Jazz Festival in 2010; Outstanding Improvisation Solo at Simpson College Jazz Festival in 2010. He was a member of the IKM-Manning Homecoming Royalty this year and has received an award for “Most Spirit” during Homecoming week. He is a member of his church’s CORE & SHOUT youth groups and has served as a mass server. He is the drummer for a local Praise Band. Additionally, after being diagnosed one year ago with ulcerative colitis he is a member of the Ulcerative Colitis Foundation. He works at the St Anthony Hospital Pharmacy as well as assisting his dad in their grain farm operation – planting and harvesting and repairing equipment as needed.
Mitchell has lettered in Track, Football, Baseball and Cross Country. He has participated in basketball. He has been a participant in all (except Cross Country) for all of junior high and all of high school years. In his sophomore year, he was dual enrolled in football and cross country, lettering in cross country. On this year’s football team, he plays on offensive, defensive and special teams. He is one of his team’s top tacklers. He has received the Boyer Valley Conference Academic award. Mitchell has a positive attitude in the athletic arenas and serves as a positive role model to his teammates. Last year he was selected for football’s Mr. Hustler award. This year he serves as co captain of the team at many of the football games. It is a pleasure to watch him participate in athletics where he totally enjoys the “game” and encourages and interacts with his teammates. Although he is definitely victory-driven, he knows how to lose graciously and move on. He enthusiastically supports his school mates in their athletic pursuits – attending volleyball and girls basketball games regularly.

He is president of the Class of 2011 and has been president of that class for a total of 6 years -- junior high (2 years) and high school (4 years). He is a member of his church’s CORE & SHOUT youth groups and has served as a mass server. He is the drummer for a local Praise Band. He is a member of Aspinwall Achievers 4-H group. Additionally, after being diagnosed one year ago with ulcerative colitis he is a member of the Ulcerative Colitis Foundation.
