State looking into Hardin County manure spill

ACKLEY, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is
looking into a Hardin County manure spill near the unincorporated
town of Cleves.
The agency says the 3,000 gallon spill on Friday occurred as
manure was being transferred to a concrete basin at a hog
confinement facility.
Authorities say a frozen pipe may have caused the spill, which
reached South Beaver Creek.
Investigators say as a result of the spill, elevated levels of
ammonia and cloudiness in the water resulted.
Because of snow and ice, investigators were unable to determine
if the spill caused a major fish kill. Authorities say 15 dead
minnows were found over a six-mile stretch of the creek.
