Carroll, Iowa -- The Carroll County Extension Office has a new way for older individuals to get in shape with something that’s better known for consuming young people’s time. By following the Living well Through Intergenerational Fitness and Exercise, or LIFE, program older adults can become healthier through the use of younger adult led exercise routines utilizing video games. Exergaming focuses on the health benefits of physical activity and integrates them with the fun of video games. The benefits for older adults include increased muscle strength, improved flexibility, increased balance, less pain, and a chance to socialize. The program also provides different generations the opportunity to learn from one another. Beginning this month the Carroll County ISU Extension Office will offer LIFE program classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. The cost is $25.00 per year and the program is open to anyone regardless of age. For more information or to get registered call the Extension Office at 712-792-2364.
