Firm selected to study downtown facade updates in Sac City

Sac City, Iowa -- In August Sac City was notified the city had had received a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award from the federal government. The city plans to improve the front facades of properties in the downtown and business district, but before the city can negotiate a contract to get the project started, City Manager, Adam Ledford says the city must first designate a preferred vendor to be approved by the government.

The city has chosen to work with Tallgrass Historians of Iowa City for two reasons according to Ledford.

Now that the city has designated the firm they can begin negotiating costs. Aside from the grant money the city has also committed about $150,000 while around $100,000 has been concurrently committed by the property owners themselves. Approximately 20 to 30 downtown businesses may qualify for improvements paid for with the CDBG award money.
