Facebook post causes unease in Carroll and Glidden

Carroll, Iowa -- Reports of a suspicious white cargo van in the Glidden and Carroll areas are circulating on Facebook. The posting says an older Caucasian man wearing a baseball cap was reportedly following children along paper routes and at parks with the van. Carroll Broadcasting talked with Carroll Police Chief Jeff Cayler this afternoon and he says the city did not receive any such reports other than one call from a citizen who saw post on Facebook.  Carroll County Sheriff Doug Bass also told Carroll Broadcasting a deputy was dispatched to look for the vehicle in Glidden, but the van was not located.

Chief Cayler isn’t writing off the possibility of a threat, but does caution residents that postings on Facebook are not always accurate and sometimes create paranoia. He says the best way to alert others of possible threats is by calling your local law enforcement office or 911 so authorities can notify the public via official channels.
