Lawn mower purchase will save Wall Lake thousands of dollars

Wall Lake, Iowa -- The city of Wall Lake will save an estimated $50,000 in the next ten years simply by mowing their own grass. Instead of hiring a lawn mowing service to do the work each year for $10,000 to $11,000 per season the city approved the purchase of a new riding lawn mower. A budget of $7,500 was approved for the purchase price at the city council meeting on Monday. The city’s Public Works Director researched many different mowers and found many possible choices, but hadn’t made a final decision by the time of the last city council meeting earlier week.

On Friday the decision was made to purchase a Scag Power Equipment mower which carried a retail price of around $6,700. City Clerk, Chris Rodman says that the machine is expected remain in service for about 10 years. With the addition of 20 acres of grass at the cemetery and city parks to mow the city will also hire one additional summer position this year. Rodman says, that even taking the extra position’s wages and money for gas purchases into account the city will ultimately save its citizens a lot of greenbacks.
