Manning, Iowa -- The Manning Fire Department will receive the grant they had applied for through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin announced today that Manning Fire and Rescue would be one of nine fire departments that were approved. The over $264,000 grant will help them purchase a new pumper-tanker truck which is estimated to cost around $275,000. Fire Chief Bob Ehlers says they received 2 bids from Feld’s and 1 bid from Toynes for the brand new truck. He says they will eliminate a 1982 pumper truck and a 1975 tanker truck with the new purchase. The next newest pumper truck will be a 1992. They plan to file the paperwork and begin the bid process in the next month. Under terms of the grant they will have a year to purchase and have the vehicle in operation. With the addition of the new truck and the activation of the grass attack truck in October the Manning Fire Department will have seven trucks in their fleet.
