Carroll Rescue League taking care of dogs that were neglected

Carroll, Iowa -- The Animal Rescue League in Carroll received 5 cocker spaniels and 1 doxen that is pregnant from according to director Stacey Vonnahme.  The 6 dogs were delivered by authorities following the raid Wednesday afternoon in Sac County.  Volunteers and staff will begin grooming the dogs tonight which could take a couple of days to complete.  Vonnahme told Carroll Broadcasting Thursday the dogs are dirty and matted and very much epitomize what you would think of when you hear puppy mill.  She says they are friendly and enjoy the sun and being looking around.  2 of the dogs are still a little shy after authorities say they were rescued because of unsanitary conditions.  A court hearing is scheduled to take place in 10 days which could place the dogs back with the person they were seized from Wednesday.  Authorities haven’t released any names due to an ongoing investigation.  Vonnahme says they can place the dogs up for adoption after the court case but will need to have the dogs seen by a veterinarian and all issues taken care of first.  The adoption process would begin with someone filling out an application.  Vonnahme says she was surprised to see how many people have already volunteered to help take care of the dogs but they can always use more donations and volunteers.
