Dogs seized during Sac County raid

Sac City, Iowa -- The Sac County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant Wednesday morning around 11:00 at a rural Southern Sac County farm.  During their search a building was found that contained cages of animals being kept in what is believed to be unsanitary conditions.  The animals mainly cocker spaniels were seized and with the assistance of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, were removed from the location.  88 dogs and one cat were seized.  The dogs and cat were transported to shelters in Carroll, Boone, Sioux City, Des Moines and Cedar Rapids.  A veterinary clinic in eastern Iowa helping care for the dogs reported many had ear and eye infections, lesions and sores, fleas and severe dental disease.  No charges have been filed at this time and the name and owner of the location of the seizure have not been released, pending further investigation.

We will have more information available on the dogs at the Carroll Animal Rescue League later Thursday afternoon!
