Roman J. Steffes & Sons Construction Presented With 2017 Heritage Award

The success of a community is largely based on the success of locally-owned and operated businesses, and the Carroll Chamber of Commerce recognizes a company each year during their annual banquet that illustrates this. Ryan Milligan, of Commercial Savings Bank, presented this year’s honor. He says Carroll is characterized by institutions that have existed for decades.

The 2017 Heritage Award-winning company found its start in 1949 when a young man from Roselle was hired to work on farm buildings. Five years later, the company’s founder built his first house and continued to grow his company from there. Milligan describes this business as a perfect example of the work ethic that can be found in Carroll County.

Roman J. Steffes & Sons Construction is credited with building more than 700 homes, apartments and lots in Carroll. Roman accepted the award on behalf of the company he started. He says he is proud to drive around the community and see houses that he built still in great condition. He does note some aspects of the business have changed since it was started.

Roman was joined by nearly 20 members of the Steffes family after accepting the award. He thanked Carroll and the surrounding communities for the opportunities offered to him over the years. Six other awards were presented during the Chamber’s Annual Banquet. Those winners can be found included below.
