Omaha Man Charged With Felony Theft After Failed Attempt To Steal $2,500 Of Merchandise In Fish Tank

An Omaha man’s failed attempt to steal almost $2,500 worth of merchandise from a Carroll business has resulted in felony charges against him. Authorities allege on Jan. 25, 20-year-old Justin Michael Matulevicz placed numerous items inside a fish tank while in Walmart and tried to pass through the checkout without paying for the goods. When a cashier tried to check inside the tank, Matulevicz grabbed the items and ran outside. He was unable to leave the property before being stopped by employees and returning the stolen items. Matulevicz left by vehicle before authorities arrived, but the vehicle’s plates were reported to law enforcement. He was later arrested and charged in District Court for Carroll County with second-degree theft, a class D felony. If found guilty of the charge, Matulevicz faces up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
