Manning’s “Colorful” History Project Wins State Award

A “colorful” history project has garnered the attention of state leaders and earned a special award for a local group last week. On Wednesday, April 11, Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg presented the Manning Historic Preservation Commission with the Loren Horton Community History Award. The team’s collection of historical narratives that were put together in coloring book format and distributed from the Hausbarn and other local establishments was recognized as an outstanding effort in keeping our local history alive for the youth of the region as well as those visiting the area. The award is named in honor of Loren Horton, who represented the State Historical Society of Iowa from 1973 until his retirement in 1996. The award is presented to individuals, groups or organizations whose outstanding local history project was completed during the previous calendar year.
