Iowa One Of States Least Affected By Government Shutdown

The country is waking up to the 19th U.S. government shut down since 1976, but Iowans seem to be able to rest a little easier than many other parts of the country. According to the personal-finance website, WalletHub, Iowa ranks as the seventh least affected by the shutdown. WalletHub compared 50 states and the District of Columbia on key metrics, ranging from each state’s share of federal jobs and contracts to the number of children covered under government-funded health insurance. They found that Iowa ranked 48th out of those 51 in the share of federal jobs, 37th in federal contract dollars per capita and at 19th with the number of children utilizing government-supported health care. The only other states less affected included Tennessee, Ohio, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota. The top five affected are, of course, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, Alaska and Hawaii. The full report can be found here.
