Grand Junction Woman Facing Several Charges After Seen Drinking In Public

A Grand Junction woman was arrested Saturday evening after she was seen drinking in public and yelling at children inside of a van. An officer with the Jefferson Police Department responded to the scene on North Elm Street in Jefferson at approximately 9:07 p.m., searching for the gray van with a broken back window. The van was not found at that time, but a few moments later it was observed by officers at a gas station on east Highway 30. The investigation led to the arrest of 25-year-old Amber Marie Benavides on charges of operating while intoxicated, first offense, a serious misdemeanor, disorderly conduct, operating a motor vehicle without a registration, failure to provide proof of financial liability, failure to have a valid driver’s license and fraudulent use of a registration, all simple misdemeanors.
