Carroll Supervisors Approve Agreement For Jail Needs Assessment

The Carroll County Supervisors on Tuesday agreed to enter into a professional services agreement with Shive Hattery for the completion of a jail needs assessment. Sheriff Ken Pingrey has been named the point of contact for the county. The contract had been presented to Carroll County Attorney, John Werden, for review and Pingrey says some changes were made prior to presentation to the board for approval.

The firm will be coming to meet with the Carroll jail committee members on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Carroll County Courthouse. This meeting is open to the public, and will introduce all principals, define roles, begin the fact-finding process with the compilation of necessary data for the assessment and they will eventually be doing interviews throughout the courthouse. Dean Schettler asked Pingrey what his expectations are for this assessment.

As Shive Hattery determines whether the recommendation would be to build, remodel or do nothing, everyone was in agreement that doing nothing is most likely an option that is already off the table.

If the recommendation is to build, Pingrey says the proposed site is right by the Courthouse to the west. Then they would move into the next steps of reviewing the site, doing tests, developing an architectural rendering and eventually, if it would go to a bond referendum, they would help with that campaign.
