Bishop Nickless Approves New Name For Carroll’s Unified Parish

Parishioners of Carroll, under the guidance and direction of Pastor Father Kevin Richter, have been discussing several possible new names for their consolidated parish. As a part of the Ministry 2025 Diocese of Sioux City pastoral planning process, the St. Lawrence and Holy Spirit Parishes are becoming unified under a new name. On Thursday, May 24, the Most Reverend R. Walker Nickless, Bishop of the Sioux City Diocese, announced he has accepted the Carroll leadership’s recommendation and the parish will be called “Pope Saint John Paul the Second Parish.” “We recall with joy that Saint John Paul II visited Living History Farms in Iowa, not too far from Carroll, on Oct. 4, 1979,” Nickless says. “It is a great honor that we will ask his intercession in a special way for Carroll County and the Diocese of Sioux City, to guide us in the on-going work of implementing the next phase of our pastoral planning process and to inspire us to bring about a new evangelization.” The new name will take effect immediately.
