Bids For Proposed Lake View Lagoon Project $1.5 Million Over Estimate

The future of a proposed wastewater treatment lagoon in Lake View is in question after construction bids came in much higher than anticipated. An area about a half-mile northeast of town was chosen for the new lagoon, and construction was scheduled to begin later this year. City Administrator, Scott Peterson, says those plans could change because the two bids they received were more than $1.5 million over budget.

Peterson says they were surprised by how much higher the bids were compared to their estimates. After talking with the project coordinators, they determined that most of the difference came from a few specific aspects of the project.

Peterson says this has not affected the construction schedule yet, but it is still a possibility.

Officials are exploring other ways to cut costs before making a decision. The Lake View City Council has requested more information from the contracted engineering firm and hopes to make a decision at their next meeting. That meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 7 at 7 p.m. in the Lake View Municipal Building.
