Sac City has taken another step closer to annexing a future housing development with the selection of an engineering firm to manage utility expansion. JEO Consulting Group has been hired to expand the city’s gas, electric and sewer systems to approximately 30 new residential lots on the southern edge of town. Brett Harmon, the property owner, and the city have nearly reached an agreement to finalize the annexation, essentially cementing the future of the development. The project is expected to cost nearly $3.5 million to complete. Sac City officials are hoping up to 70 percent of that cost will be covered by rural development grants from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). JEO will also be performing an evaluation of the existing utilities and, if necessary, modernize the system to address some existing issues. If everything goes as plan, construction on the project will begin in spring or summer of 2018.
