Crawford County Sheriff, Jim Steinkuehler, has extended an open invitation for the dedication of the county’s new search and rescue boat and the storage building erected to house it. There will be a lunch and ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 713 S. 12th Street in Denison at 12:30 p.m. Steinkuehler says this is a way to celebrate reaching their goal in donations and that no money will be collected at the ceremony. The only thing attendees are asked to bring is their own lawn chair. A free lunch will also be served. Fundraising for the new building and boat began in earnest earlier this year after the death of 15-year-old Yoana Acosta of Denison. Acosta was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed into the Boyer River in the early morning hours of Jan. 19. Her body was not recovered until Jan. 26.
