Oktoberfest In Manning Will Also Commemorate 100th Birthday Of Farmstead

There will be an added reason to celebrate at this year’s Oktoberfest in Manning as they also commemorate the 100th birthday of the Leet-Hassler Farmstead. On Saturday, Oct. 14, the annual Oktoberfest party will kick-off with tours of the farmstead and the 357-year-old Hausbarn at 3 p.m. There will also be horse and wagon rides, rug making, accordion playing, fainting goats and many other activities. Three p.m. will mark the start time for a bags tournament that will reap a $100 prize for a lucky two-person team. Wine and craft beer tasting opens at 4 p.m. with musical entertainment provided by Angela and Gene of Sleepy Eye, Minn. German-American dancers will perform at 5 p.m. and the traditional Keg Tapping ceremony, conducted by members of the German-American Society of Omaha, Neb., will be at 5:30 p.m. That will be followed by the authentic German meal from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The night will round out with polka dancing with Barefoot Becky and the Ivanhoe Dutchmen from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. During intermission attendees are invited to play the popular drinking game, masskrugstmemmen, and to enjoy sparklers and cupcakes for the 100th birthday. Admission for the entire day, including the meal, is $25 per person, $10 if not taking part in the meal and $15 for the meal only.
