Might Want To Lay Off The Gravy This Thanksgiving, Iowa Ranks In The Top 15 Fattest States

As we are planning for one of the biggest eating holidays of the year, a recent report by WalletHub.com has ranked states throughout the country who are more heavily contributing to the nearly $200 billion per year spent on healthcare costs related to one problem—obesity. The WalletHub analysts compared the states on 19 key metrics, including what share of the population is overweight and/or obese, the overall consumption of sugary beverages by teenagers and the lack of physical activity. The results put Iowa in the top 15 fattest states in the country, landing at number 12 on the list. Iowa ranked fifth in obesity related deaths, 16th with the percentage of obese children and 12th in the category of obese adults. As for the rest of the country, Mississippi was named the fattest state in the nation, while Colorado was the leanest and most fit. Nevada had the highest percentage of overweight adults and North Dakota the highest percentage of overweight children. A link to the full WalletHub report can be found below.
