Impaired Driver Injures Five Year Old In I-80 Crash Saturday

A five-year-old was injured in an accident in Adair County Saturday night. The Iowa State Patrol reports that 30-year-old Patrick Lester of Fort Wayne, Ind. was exceeding the speed limit while traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 when his 2007 Honda CRV struck the rear end of a 2010 Dodge pickup driven by 52-year-old Corrie Ann Lambert of Traverse City, Mich. This forced the Lambert vehicle into the south ditch. Lester then swerved to the left and sideswiped a 2009 Saturn driven by 59-year-old Dianne Rullestad of Des Moines, causing both to enter the median and strike the cable barriers. A passenger in the Lester vehicle, five-year-old Logan Lester, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was transported to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines by Stuart Rescue. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and charges are pending against Lester for operating while intoxicated, child endangerment and multiple traffic citations.
