Home Sales Dip In February, But Prices Remain Steady

Although home prices across the state remained steady in the month of February, the Iowa Association of Realtors (IAR) is reporting that sales slipped by 4.7 percent as compared to February of 2016. Statewide sales of homes dropped from just over 2,700 in February of 2016 to 1,976 this year, but a strong start has sales down only 1.7 percent year-to-date. The number of days a home remained on the market did drop last month as compared to one year ago from 96 to 91 days. IAR President, Cindy Miller, says with interest rates remaining below 4.5 percent and warmer weather not too far ahead, they are looking forward to a spring boost in both buying and selling.
