Gov. Reynolds Signs Proclamation To Ease Transportation During Harvest Season

Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation yesterday (Monday) to temporarily ease regulations on the transportation of agricultural products. The declaration allows for vehicles transporting corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage and stover to exceed weight guidelines without a permit from Monday, Nov. 13 to Friday, Dec. 1. During this time, overweight vehicles are allowed on highways within Iowa as long as they do not surpass 90,000 pounds gross weight, do not exceeded the legal maximum axle weight limit by more than 12.5 percent or 20,000 pounds and comply with posted limits on roads and bridges. Vehicles traveling on Iowa’s interstates are not affected by the announcement. Reynolds has directed the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) to monitor vehicles affected by this proclamation to ensure public safety and aid in a successful harvest statewide.
